Unlock Psych Blog

Welcome to the Unlock Psych Blog, a space for healing, reflection, and community for anyone who has experienced psychiatric hospitalization, incarceration, or related trauma. Here, I share insights from lived experience, trauma-informed resources, and survivor-centered perspectives to help you feel understood, supported, and connected.

This blog is for survivors, peer supporters, and anyone seeking honest discussion about psychiatric incarceration trauma, recovery, and peer-led healing. My goal is to create a safe place to explore your experiences, learn coping strategies, and feel less alone on your journey.

A photo I took of myself when I was locked on a medical unit and temporarily could use my phone while I was waiting for a bed to open up on the psychiatric unit. I did a lot of writing and reflecting during that stay.

Why I Write

I created this blog because survivors of psychiatric incarceration need spaces that validate lived experience and resources that feel practical and compassionate. Too often, psychiatric trauma is silenced or misunderstood — here, your story is seen, your feelings are valid, and your journey matters.
